Our story

We believe every woman belongs in nature .

Women in Nature was built on a simple idea: the outdoors shouldn't feel like someone else's territory.

Altheia Tyler

Founder & Lead Guide

Altheia Tyler is an outdoor mentor, wellness advocate, and passionate supporter of creating greater access to nature and outdoor recreation for women, youth, and families. Her connection to the outdoors began during childhood, where some of her fondest memories included fishing and taking walks through the woods. Her outdoor journey expanded more than 25 years ago when she met her husband, Sidney Tyler. Together, they began exploring new adventures including hunting, hiking, offshore fishing, archery, wildlife conservation, and other outdoor recreational experiences. Those experiences helped Altheia recognize the confidence, connection, healing, and personal growth that can happen when people are given opportunities to experience the outdoors.

I started Women in Nature in 2023 because I wanted other women to have that experience without the fear. Not the fear of getting lost — that's part of it — but the fear of not belonging. Of being the only one who doesn't know what she's doing. Of being judged for starting late or going slow.

Our purpose

Why WIN Exists

Women In Nature (WIN) exists to create welcoming, supportive opportunities for women to reconnect with themselves, build confidence, learn outdoor skills, and experience the physical and emotional benefits of time spent in nature.

For many women, outdoor recreation can feel unfamiliar, intimidating, or simply inaccessible. WIN helps remove those barriers by creating intentional spaces where women can learn at their own pace, try something new, develop practical skills, and connect with other women in a positive and encouraging environment.

Whether through hiking, archery, outdoor wellness experiences, firearms education, fishing, or other adventures, WIN is designed to help women discover that the outdoors is a place where they belong.

How we work

Our Approach

Wellness • Skills • Adventure • Sisterhood

Our experiences are built around four connected areas:

Wellness

We use nature as a setting for movement, reflection, stress reduction, personal growth, and meaningful connection.

Skills

Women receive practical, hands-on instruction designed to increase knowledge, independence, confidence, and comfort in outdoor environments.

Adventure

We encourage women to explore new places, challenge themselves, and experience outdoor activities they may never have imagined trying.

Sisterhood

WIN creates opportunities for women to build authentic relationships, encourage one another, share experiences, and grow together.

What we stand for

Our Values

Belonging

Every woman deserves to feel welcomed and represented in outdoor spaces.

Confidence

We create opportunities for women to strengthen their skills, trust their abilities, and become more comfortable trying new experiences.

Safety

Safety, responsible instruction, proper equipment use, and participant well-being are central to every WIN experience.

Exploration

We encourage curiosity, discovery, and the courage to experience something new.

Stewardship

We promote respect for wildlife, public lands, natural resources, and responsible outdoor recreation.

Connection

We believe meaningful connections—to nature, to ourselves, and to one another—can strengthen individual and community well-being.

Credentials

Training & Experience

Participants should feel confident knowing that WIN activities are led with an emphasis on safety, education, preparation, and responsible outdoor recreation.
